Using religion to establish moral footings assumes that religion was not invented by man. In fact, man invents religion over time, always changing. Man has invented gods in the sun, the moon, in the wind, the ocean, etc. Man invented Christianity that in its early times believed god visited humans very often and then sent his son to live on earth. Now anyone that claims to talk to god or see him is considered crazy. Morals always have and always will be invented by man.
