The holy writings of the world all went through many years of oral transmission before being written down. For example, it took thousands of years before the Old Testament was written down, writing not having been invented back then. It took decades after the death of Jesus for the Gospels to be written. The teachings of Mohammad were not collected into book form until after his death.
