Despite the fact that technological progress and medical advances are due to people with expertise in their area, people these days seem to think expertise is unimportant and opinions are as valid as knowledge.

Hmmmm, so what makes someone an expert vs having expertise?

Maybe the comic is confusing. Being an expert is the same thing as having expertise. The cat that says expertise resides in the individual is claiming gut feelings are the same as expertise which is obviously wrong.
