Early Christians struggled to understand why Jesus had to die. One of the answers they came up with was that Jesus died to atone for our sins. I’ve always thought that answer is much too easy and convenient.

Much of Trump’s support comes from Evangelical Christians, which at first seems strange considering how un-Christian Trump’s actions are. But then you realize that Evangelicals believe Trump can help them achieve their goals, and this turns out to be more important than following Jesus’ instructions to us.
